Born in Edinburgh in 1980, James McGachie is a third-generation Italian Scot with both Italian heritage from his father and Scottish roots from his mother. His grandfather embarked on a journey in the early 20th century from the small hamlet of San Gennaro in Picinisco that led him first to the United States and then to Scotland. The true awakening of his Italian identity came later in life. In his thirties, during his first visit to his grandfather’s village, he experienced an immediate and profound connection. Now James proudly embraces his dual identity. This duality is evident even in his love for rugby. As a huge fan, he eagerly follows both Italy and Scotland in the Six Nations, often turning these sporting events into opportunities to visit Rome and return to his ancestral village in Ciociaria.
